~ Transfigured Night ~
"The inspiration for this event came from a community circle singing event I was a guest at in Byron Bay, Australia in February 2018. I could sense the strong sense of a community coming together to sing and hold space, the cross-fertilisation of medicine songs and devotional chanting, the sense of overall quality in the musicianship, and the blend of focused mood with relaxed access to come and go and get some food at a chai cafe, to dance or move at the back, sit and sing at the front, or lie down on a sheepskin ....
The idea is that this event on May 18th in Devon will be the first in a series of Transfigured Night events, happening in the SouthWest and SouthEast - having a floating pool of musicians so that each event has the same feel and flow, the same mood and intention ... bringing together medicine songs and devotional songs with sound journeys and musical meditations, keeping some space for showcasing small ensemble performances as individual singers or musical duos/trios but keeping the emphasis on circle singing in a quasi-ceremonial mood ... maintaining quality and answering a growing thirst for folks to come together in this way, non-denominational and without plant sacraments ... just the open hearts and spirits of those there and a willingness to drop into stillness and silence as well as lift the roof with our voices."
